Slaughtering in the Name of Other than Allah Is an Act of Shirk
Question
(1) Zayd made a vow to an idol and image which the Hindus worship and to which they make offerings. Then, some years later, in order to have his son’s topknot cut off, he pledged one or two goats in the name of that same idol and image, and there slaughtered one or two goats in the idol’s name. (2)
Answer
To make a vow in this manner is the way of the idolaters and a grave act of disobedience; such a goat is not lawful: in all three cases it is forbidden and carrion. The ruling of the noble Qur’an and the noble hadith is wholly true; belief in it is obligatory, and no one has the right to rule contrary to it.
