Waking a Dozing Audience During a Sermon
Question
A noble scholar rose to deliver a lecture and, looking at the audience, saw that all of them were dozing off. In order to drive away the drowsiness, he said something that made everyone’s sleep vanish, their hearts turned to the Qur’an and Hadith, and he began reciting the Qur’an and Hadith to them. What is the ruling on this?
Answer
Waking those who are dozing, and after waking them delivering a sermon to those present and listening, is correct — but for this purpose he must not say anything false or contrary to the Sacred Law.
