To whom should this sum be returned if the house owner does not wish to take it

Question

Question: Often a building has several joint owners, among whom there may be both Muslims and non-Muslims. If one owner does not wish to take this sum while the other owners wish to take it, disagreement arises in such a case and the matter goes bad. In such a case, may the owner who does not wish to take it, if he does take this sum, use it himself or spend it on repairs of the house and the like, or not?

Answer

Having taken this sum, he should return it to the one from whom it was taken.
