What standard applies to housing fixed as part of a salary?
Question
Question: What is the status of a residential house in the Shari‘a? If it is agreed with someone, “We will give you a house along with the salary,” should that house have the necessary things, such as a latrine, a bathroom (hammam) or a well, or not? Moreover, those who are inviting are giving a house that has a well, but its privacy walls are not proper. So if there is difficulty with regard to the most basic needs, is this arrangement of the responsible persons correct or not?
Answer
This depends on the standing of both — the one who invites and the one who is invited; the ruling is not the same for everyone.
