A job obtained by paying a bribe
Question
Question: ‘Alim al-Din obtained a government job by paying a large bribe. Is the money he has now earned from this job permissible or not?
Answer
If the work of the job is permissible, then the income of that job — the salary — is also permissible. If at the outset a bribe was given to obtain the job, the income from the job, which is in reality the compensation for service and labour, does not become impermissible on that account: the sin of the bribe does not reach his income.
