Rent for a shop where an intoxicating medicine is sold
Question
Question: I own a brick-built shop which I have let to a man; he opened a medical store (of English, i.e. Western, medicines) in it. Ginger tincture is also a medicine, but since it is intoxicating, people use it in place of wine, and quite a crowd gathers there. I have questioned the shopkeeper about this many times and told him to vacate the shop, but he pays no attention; and since he pays the rent regularly month after month, he cannot be evicted legally either.
Answer
Surely there must also be pure and permissible medicines in his shop; because of them his entire income will not be called impermissible, nor will the rent obtained from him be called impermissible. So do not be troubled.
