Contributing to the Hindus’ “Mai” during smallpox
Question
During smallpox, new Muslims give contributions to the “Mai” (lit. “mother”, the smallpox goddess) of the Hindus for Hindu worship. The head of the Dar al-ʿUlum has given a fatwa that, for giving a contribution to the Hindus during smallpox, people’s nikah is broken. Is this correct?
Answer
Giving contributions for shirk and kufr is extremely dangerous. If, as a precaution, the nikah of these people is performed again, there is no harm in it; in future let them abstain completely.
