Children’s dolls and toys

Question

Among the toys found for children in Muslim homes there are, more often than not, dolls and the like. What is the ruling on letting a child play with such toys? What is the ruling on keeping them in Muslim homes? What is the ruling on Muslims trading in them?

Answer

If the shape and form of the doll or of any other toy is not that of an animate being, there is no harm. Making the image of an animate being and keeping it in the house is forbidden; do not keep them even for children, and do not trade in such images either.
