Children playing with spinning tops and the like

Question

Should children be permitted to play with a spinning top or not? Likewise, should they be permitted to wear a Turkish cap (fez) and a coat or not? If they are permitted, then up to what age? We would be grateful if you would explain.

Answer

Although these things are not haram for children, nevertheless, the more they are accustomed to good character and conduct, the more it will affect them when they grow up. A coat that is not the distinguishing mark (shiʿar)
