Shaking hands by compulsion
Question
What is the ruling on making people shake hands by stopping them one after another? And is there a law of the Shariʿa that the common people should be stopped and made to shake hands, whether they are inclined to or not?
Answer
If some teacher, father or mentor (murabbi), by way of upbringing and instruction, stops the children and adults under his charge and makes them shake hands, there is no harm in it. But when an outsider is uneasy about shaking hands, he should not be pressed. Shaking hands is established by hadith and fiqh.
