Calling one’s husband “brother”

Question

Question: There is a respected lady who has the habit of saying “brother” at every turn, for example: “come, brother”, “go, brother”, “bring it, brother”, “no, brother”, and so on and so forth. She addresses her husband in the same way. I have pulled her up on it many times, but her answer is that it slips off her tongue absent-mindedly and she does not mean it from the heart. In this case, has her nikah not been affected?

Answer

It is makruh for a wife to call her husband “brother”, and she should be careful about it; but her nikah has not been annulled because of it, nor has she become haram for her husband. If a word that has settled on the tongue as a habitual filler is wrong, it should be corrected.
