Usurping land and having a neighbour’s house built on it
Question
Question: A certain person forcibly usurped a small piece of my land and had my neighbour’s house built on it. I was not asked anything about this, and I did not consent to it. What do you say about this person who forcibly usurped land and had a house built on it for the neighbour — about such a person?
Answer
Usurping land is a major sin (kabira): a collar made of all seven earths will be put around the usurper’s neck. The neighbour is obliged to vacate your land — to remove the house; or to take from you the value of the building material, in which case that house too will become yours; or to take your land from you on lease and keep paying you rent, so that the land remains yours…
