How a debt is to be repaid
Question
Question: One of this humble servant’s sisters passed away during our father’s lifetime: a baby girl, Rayhana, was born to her by operation, and she then died. At this sister’s wedding our father had given a house as dowry. The girl Rayhana was brought up by our mother, and she has now reached adulthood. Our father, during his lifetime, sold the house given as dowry out of necessity for one thousand five hundred rupees and spent that money.
Answer
(1) The matter should be settled with the person to whom the debt is owed: if he agrees to take the land, the land should be given to him; if he demands cash, the land should be sold and the debt repaid by giving him its price.
