Deceitfully Selling Pork to Muslims

Question

Question: A most painful incident has occurred here. It happened like this: there is a neighbourhood, Dipa Sarai, whose population is entirely Muslim; a Muslim butcher from another neighbourhood sold pork there for a long time, calling it goat meat. Suddenly, on 31 July, this secret came out, and he was handed over to the police. We request you to write about his punishment according to the Shari‘a of Muhammad, and what is the method of expiation (kaffara) for those who ate that meat through deception?

Answer

Those Muslims who, lying and passing off pork as goat meat, sold it among Muslims — if the matter is truly established, then this person is a criminal both before God and before the Muslims. If there were a Shar‘i government, he would be given such an exemplary punishment that in future no one would dare to commit such an act.
