Deception in a sale
Question
Question: There is a pleated nylon trim (bel). We receive it at 9 metres, stretch it and increase it to eleven metres, and we measure it and sell it. If a customer says, “This has been stretched,” we say, “It has been stretched”; it is the customer’s choice whether to take it or not. What is the ruling of the Shari‘a on this?
Answer
When you tell him, “Yes, this has been stretched,” and do not deceive, then it is the buyer’s choice: if he wishes he buys, and if he does not wish he does not buy. If you deceive, it is impermissible and a sin.
