A lower price for cash, a higher one on credit
Question
Question: (1) ‘Abdullah bought a shop from ‘Abd al-Ghaffar in the month of Jumada al-Thani. ‘Abd al-Ghaffar said: “If you give the price today, then there is no issue at all — I will take the market price; and if you give it in the month of Rajab, I will take a higher price.” (2) The second case is that paddy (unhusked rice) was taken on credit, because of which a price higher than the market is being taken. (3)
Answer
(1) A sale in such a vague manner is not valid. First the buyer should be asked: “Will you give the price now or in Rajab?” If he says, “I will give it now,” he should be told: “I will take a price of 20 rupees.” If he says, “I will give it in Rajab,” he should be told: “I will take a price of 25 rupees.” In short, one thing should be settled.
