Buying incense sticks to burn at a shrine

Question

A man trades in incense sticks, frankincense and fragrances. People buy from him and burn them before goddesses and gods, and ignorant Muslims burn them at shrine-tombs. In this situation, is the man sinful or not?

Answer

Selling incense sticks and frankincense is permissible according to the Shari‘a; those who buy them and use them wrongly will themselves be answerable for it.
