Selling contrary to the controlled price; at what rate sadaqat al-fitr is to be paid
Question
Question: The situation with control (state price regulation) is clear to everyone. If brokers secretly sell goods, taking a price higher than the fixed one, is this permissible or not? (The broker bought the goods with his own money and brought them; the only point is that it is the government that has imposed certain compulsory conditions, not the owner.) And will fitra be discharged (if calculated) at the controlled rate or not?
Answer
If it does not come to breaking promises and lying, and there is also no danger to one’s honour or of loss of property (as happens when, upon its becoming known, a case is brought and a fine is imposed), then it is permissible. If he also obtains (what he needs for) his own expenses at the controlled rate, then it is permissible to pay sadaqat al-fitr at that rate as well.
