Trading in pork and the like on the part of a Muslim
Question
Question: In Africa and elsewhere trade is generally carried on by Muslims. Among other things they also sell meat in sealed tins, and those who buy it are all non-Muslims. This meat is generally not from a ritually slaughtered animal; rather, it is sometimes even pork. Is buying and selling of this kind permissible under the Shariʿa for a Muslim trader or not?
Answer
Buying and selling the meat of carrion is not permissible for a Muslim; it is a void sale (bayʿ batil).
