Selling foxes, frogs and the like
Question
Question: In the view of the Shari‘a, what is the ruling on buying and selling foxes, frogs, bedbugs, hair and the like, and on living off that income?
Answer
The fox’s skin is tanned and put to use; trading in it is permissible. If any part of the frog is used in a permissible way, then trading in it is also proper. The same applies to the bedbug. But it should be borne in mind that the sale of carrion (animals that have died) is not permissible — rather, such a sale is batil (void).
