Carrying the Bridegroom in a Palanquin

Question

In our locality it is customary at a wedding to seat the bridegroom in a palanquin and carry him on the shoulders. Is this act of theirs permissible or not?

Answer

Riding in a palanquin which people carry on their shoulders is permissible; but to regard it as necessary on the occasion of a wedding is not a ruling of the Sacred Law but a custom, which needs to be put an end to.
