The Abode of the Soul After Death

Question

When, after death, the soul leaves the body, where does it dwell? Does its connection with the people of this world remain or not? Does it receive the recompense for the good or evil deeds it performed in this world before the Day of Resurrection or not?

Answer

The states of the souls are very diverse; they do not all share one state. The souls of the prophets are in the highest ‘Illiyyin; the souls of the martyrs are in the crops of green birds, and in Paradise they roam wherever they wish and eat; the souls of Muslim children are in Paradise. This much is clearly established by hadith; so it is in “al-Fatawa al-Hadithiyya”.
