Words by which an oath does not take place

Question

Question: Zayd spoke to Bakr about a marriage proposal for the girl. Bakr said: “If I marry my daughter into your family, then I would even dig my mother out of the grave and give her to you, and give you my wife as well.” Bakr’s son also said these same words. Later Bakr both arranged his daughter’s match and performed the nikah. Is this nikah valid or wrong?

Answer

This absurd oath is not an oath in the Shari‘a; this nikah did not become haram because of it. Rather, the nikah that was concluded in accordance with the rules of the Shari‘a is valid.
