The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The lawful is clear and the unlawful is clear, and between them are doubtful matters that many people do not know. Whoever guards against the doubtful matters protects his religion and his honor.”

Fish — is it halal?

Ruling: Halal

Description

Fish and fish products: fillet, mince, surimi, extract, hydrolysate (fish oil — card `fish-oil`). In the EU fish as an ingredient may be called simply “fish” if the product name does not refer to a species; fish gelatine used as a carrier for vitamins and carotenoids is exempt from allergen labelling. In the EAEU the zoological species name is part of the name of fish products.

Basis of the ruling

Fish and fish products — meat, fillets, mince, surimi, extract, hydrolysate. All kinds of fish are permitted as food without slaughter. Fish gelatin, which as a vitamin carrier may not be listed in the ingredients, is also halal. Ruling: halal — in food, medicines and cosmetics.
