The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The lawful is clear and the unlawful is clear, and between them are doubtful matters that many people do not know. Whoever guards against the doubtful matters protects his religion and his honor.”

E355 Adipic acid — is it halal?

Description

Adipic acid (E355) is a dicarboxylic acid used as an acidity regulator. The main industrial route oxidises cyclohexane (or hydrogenates phenol) to cyclohexanol / KA oil and then oxidises it with nitric acid over a copper–vanadium catalyst (c1, c2); the Chinese standard and 21 CFR describe only this route. The EU specification does not state the method. Patents also describe other chemical routes (c3)

Also known as: E 355, E-355, Е355, Е 355, INS 355, INS No. 355, CNS 01.109, кислота адипиновая, гександиовая кислота, 1,4-бутандикарбоновая кислота, 1,6-гександиовая кислота, hexanedioic acid, 1,4-butanedicarboxylic acid, 1,6-hexanedioic acid, acidum adipicum
