The Holy Quran 12:79 — Surah Yusuf

Arabic text

قَالَ مَعَاذَ ٱللَّهِ أَن نَّأْخُذَ إِلَّا مَن وَجَدْنَا مَتَـٰعَنَا عِندَهُۥٓ إِنَّآ إِذًا لَّظَـٰلِمُونَ

Translation

He (Yusuf عليه الصلاة والسلام) said, "May Allaah protect us from (the injustice of) taking anyone (as prisoner) besides the one with whom we found our article. If we do so, then we would certainly be of the oppressors." (unjust ones)

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

قال يوسف: نعتصم بالله ونستجير به أن نأخذ أحدًا غير الذي وجدنا المكيال عنده -كما حكمتم أنتم-، فإننا إن فعلنا ما تطلبون نكون في عداد الظالمين.
