The Holy Quran 12:109 — Surah Yusuf

Arabic text

وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ إِلَّا رِجَالًا نُّوحِىٓ إِلَيْهِم مِّنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ ۗ أَفَلَمْ يَسِيرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَيَنظُرُوا۟ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۗ وَلَدَارُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ خَيْرٌ لِّلَّذِينَ ٱتَّقَوْا۟ ۗ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ

Translation

All the Ambiyaa that We sent before you (O Rasulullaah ﷺ) were men (neither angels nor women) from various cities (because the habits of people from cities are more refined than those from rural areas and they have more exposure to people) to whom We had sent revelation. Have they not travelled in the lands and (by seeing the ruins of previous civilisations) seen what was the outcome of those before them (how they were destroyed because they rejected Imaan)? Indeed the home of the Aakhirah is best for those who adopt Taqwa. Do you not understand (this, and therefore opt for the life of the Aakhirah instead)?

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وما أرسلنا من قبلك -أيها الرسول- للناس إلا رجالا منهم ننزل عليهم وحينا، وهم من أهل الحاضرة، فهم أقدر على فهم الدعوة والرسالة، يصدقهم المهتدون للحق، ويكذبهم الضالون عنه، أفلم يمشوا في الأرض، فيعاينوا كيف كان مآل المكذبين السابقين وما حلَّ بهم من الهلاك؟ ولَثواب الدار الآخرة أفضل من الدنيا وما فيها للذين آمنوا وخافوا ربهم. أفلا تتفكرون فتعتبروا؟
