Building an imam’s chamber on mosque land, and another mosque on a mosque’s endowed land
Question
Building an imam’s chamber on mosque land The imam of a mosque built a chamber to live in, in the courtyard of the mosque, which had earlier been prepared for prayer. Is this permissible or not? Building another mosque on a mosque’s endowed land May another mosque be built on land endowed for one mosque, contrary to the stipulation of the waqif (endower), with the unanimous agreement of the people of the neighbourhood, or not?
Answer
Where a place has been endowed as waqf for performing prayer and made into a mosque, it is not correct to build a chamber there for the imam or anyone else. On land that has been endowed for a mosque there is no right to build another mosque; it may neither be sold for another mosque, nor may money be taken for it.
