Sacrificing a hermaphrodite (khuntha) goat
Question
Question: Is the sacrifice of a hermaphrodite (khuntha) goat valid according to the Sacred Law or not? Its features are as follows: it does not have the sign of a female goat; looked at from behind it appears like a female goat, that is, in the place where a female goat has its genital organ (farj), it has no genital organ; in the place where a male goat has its testicles, there is the place from which it urinates; the sign of a male goat is not present in it either. There are two small folds (?)
Answer
A goat in which the signs of both male and female are absent, or in which the signs of both are present, is a hermaphrodite (khuntha); it should not be sacrificed: [ar]ولا بالخنثى لأن لحمها لا ينضج. شرح وهبانية[/ar] “…nor with a hermaphrodite, because its meat does not cook through.” “Sharh Wahbaniyya” (“al-Durr al-Mukhtar”, vol. 5, p. 207).
