The ruling on the words “if you now bake bread, talaq”
Question
During Ramadan, Bakr told his wife to bake bread, since he was not fasting. At this the wife said, “I will certainly not bake bread.” Hearing this sentence, the husband said: “اب اگر روٹی پکا ئیگی تو تجھ پر تینوں طلاق” (“If you now bake bread, then all three talaqs are upon you”). In this situation, if the wife bakes bread, will talaq take effect or not?
Answer
If Hinda did not bake bread at that time, but baked it in the evening at the time of iftar, then no talaq falls on Bakr’s wife by this; the nikah remains intact as before, and it is also proper for her always to bake bread and feed him.
