Wiping over Woollen and Cotton Socks Soled with Leather (Mun‘al)
Question
If woollen [or] cotton socks are made mun‘al (their soles covered with leather), is wiping over them permissible or not?
Answer
It is permissible; thus it is in Radd al-Muhtar. However, in Sharh al-Munya it is written that [wiping over] cotton socks is prohibited even though they are mun‘al; therefore it is more cautious to avoid [this] difference of opinion.
