Treating Whisperings in Purification and Prayer

Question

This is my request: this humble one suffers from the affliction of doubt and waswasa (whispering); there is no satisfaction in ghusl or other purification. It has reached the point where I pour water [over myself], yet the doubt still remains as to whether I have wudu or any purity at all. Even in prayer, I cannot recite the supplication, and I repeat it again and again; the same waswasa keeps recurring: “perform wudu” or “pray”, and I keep repeating [the act].

Answer

Respected [Sir], peace, and the mercy and blessings of Allah be upon you! Recite often: [ar]لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْعَظِيمِ[/ar] “There is no power and no strength except by Allah, the Most High, the Most Great” — and for some time go and stay in the service of some pious elder. May Allah, the Exalted Truth, deliver you from this distress. Amin.
