A form of partnership in a shop
Question
Question: What do the honourable scholars say about the following matter: Ahmad is a shopkeeper whose shop holds goods worth only one thousand. He agreed with Rafiq and Umar that Rafiq would put in ten thousand rupees and Umar five thousand rupees, and the goods of Ahmad’s shop worth one thousand would also be included in it; altogether this came to 16,000 rupees.
Answer
Let the goods now present in Ahmad’s shop be divided into sixteen shares: let Rafiq buy ten shares and Umar buy five shares, and one share will remain Ahmad’s. Now all three will be partners in it in this same proportion. Let Ahmad buy goods with this money and develop the shop, and let the work be carried on in the partnership (shirka)
