Slaughter Causes the Animal Pain

Question

Question: We slaughter an animal and then eat it, since our religion says: eat it, it is permissible for you. But why is this causing pain to an animal? We hope you will favour us with a satisfying answer.

Answer

Of the animals that are yoked to the plough, one has its nose pierced, and that too causes it pain; why is that done? Childbirth too causes a woman pain, so one should also avoid its causes. And there are a thousand other kinds of things spread throughout life which cause pain; all of them should also be abandoned.
