Fasting on the basis of a radio report

Question

I submit the following: you, respected scholars, have not given any decision to this day concerning the sighting of the new moon, and in the “Ahkam Ramadan al-Mubarak” (“Rulings of Blessed Ramadan”) published by the Dar al-'Ulum you have likewise written only that one should ascertain from the 'ulama whether it is authoritative or not. If you were to write about the radio that the news will be reliable in such-and-such forms, it would make things easy for us.

Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Shafi' Deobandi ﵀ has discussed in detail the news received by means of the radio and has published in which case such things will be reliable and in which case they will not. From here too it is written that they are reliable subject to certain conditions: it is not that they are to be accepted as reliable in every case, nor that they are to be accepted…
