Saying the takbir aloud for the individual worshipper

Question

Should a munfarid (one praying alone) in the fard prayers of Maghrib, 'Isha' and Fajr say “sami'a-Llahu li-man hamidah” and the takbirs quietly or in a loud voice?

Answer

In these prayers the munfarid should say the takbir and the tasmi' quietly. [ar]وجهر الإمام بالتكبير لحاجته إلى الإعلام بالدخول والانتقال، قيد بالإمام والمأموم لأن المنفرد لا يسن لهما الجهر به؛ لأن الأصل في الذكر الإخفاء، ولا حاجة لهما إلى الجهر[/ar] ““And the imam’s saying the takbir aloud” — because of his need to announce the entry and the transitions.
