A follower giving orders to the imam

Question

Is it permissible or not for a follower (muqtadi) to give orders to the imam and to regard him as contemptible?

Answer

Lording it over the imam and regarding him as contemptible is impermissible. If there is something in the imam contrary to the Shari‘a, it should be explained to him gently in private, so that the imam may reform himself.
