Following the mosque imam from outside the mosque and from the madrasa

Question

There is a road between the mosque and the madrasa. On Friday, when the worshippers become many, many people perform the Jumu'a in the madrasa, while shoes and the like lie in this passage. People also pray on the roof of the madrasa. Will their participation in the prayer be [valid] or not? Or is it impermissible, since the road is left [unoccupied between them]?

Answer

If this lane is so wide that a cart can pass through it, then it prevents the following (iqtida'); otherwise it does not. If, because no space remains in the mosque, the remaining worshippers stand on the roof of the mosque, that is valid; thus it is in “al-Fatawa al-Hindiyya”.
