Ruling on abandoning congregational prayer

Question

Several men in a household always pray individually at home without congregation. Will their obligatory prayers be valid if they abandon congregation?

Answer

According to the Ḥanafī school, congregational prayer for men is a confirmed Sunnah close to wājib. Abandoning it without excuse is not permissible. The one who leaves it may be subject to disciplinary action (ta‘zīr).
