Assisting in an interest-based transaction
Question
Question: I arranged for a person to obtain three thousand rupees on credit at interest for three months. But the one giving the money deducted the interest beforehand, and I made up the three thousand rupees for him by adding from my own funds, because he needed that much money. Now he will return the money together with the interest. What is the ruling for me in such a case?
Answer
You may take your money, but you have also become a partner in the sin of assisting this interest-based transaction; repentance (tawba) and seeking forgiveness (istighfar) are necessary.
