Consuming the income of a pledged coconut tree
Question
Question: Zayd pledged a coconut tree and took five hundred rupees for a term of five years. After the term had passed, he paid the five hundred rupees. Meanwhile, during the intervening years, Bakr kept consuming the income — that is, the coconut yield — without paying anything. Is this proper or not?
Answer
Pledging a coconut tree and consuming its income is not permissible; this falls under the ruling of interest.
