Taking Money for a Madrasa on the Occasion of Nikah

Question

On the occasion of nikah, money is taken for the mosque and madrasa by making a demand on the man getting married. Is this permissible or impermissible? Or do they give because it is a custom?

Answer

Forcibly taking money for a madrasa on the occasion of nikah by making a demand on the man getting married is not permissible. If they give willingly, it is allowed. If they give under compulsion because of adherence to custom, that too is not right.
