Question

Question: Did our Prophet ﷺ establish democracy? And did the four caliphs also follow this democracy, or did they make some alteration and change in it?

Answer

Hazrat Shah Waliullah Muhaddith Dehlawi ﵀ refuted democracy: there the basis of laws and rulings is not proofs but the majority, that is, decisions are made by majority opinion. Hence, if the majority opinion is contrary to the Qur’an and Hadith, the decision will be made according to it.
