A prayer mat from the shroud cloth given to the mosque
Question
From the cloth that is bought to shroud the dead, some people set aside a little cloth in the form of a prayer mat and give it to the mosque. May the people of the mosque use this mat or not? That is, is it proper to use it as a prayer mat or not?
Answer
This cloth is not part of the kafan; it is the property of the heirs. This custom should be abolished. If the heirs are adults and, in order to convey reward to the deceased, give something — a prayer mat or the like — to the mosque, then it is proper to use it.
