Charity of the shroud cloth and mat of the deceased
Question
The cloth which is placed over the deceased as a covering or for protection, and the mat which is placed on the charpoy above it and beneath the deceased — which is preferable: giving these two items to the mosque or to the poor?
Answer
Both of these items are the property of the heirs. They may use them wherever they wish. They may even use them in their own home for their own needs. Especially if there is financial hardship, it is better to use them themselves. Giving them in charity is not obligatory. They may give them to the poor, and they may also give them to the mosque.
