The pieces of cloth of the shroud

In how many pieces of cloth is it mustahabb to bury the deceased in the grave? Please write in detail.

Answer

A man in three pieces of cloth: izar, qamis (shirt) and lifafa (outer wrapping sheet); a woman in five pieces of cloth: dir‘ (shift), izar, khimar (head covering), lifafa and khirqa (binding cloth). Thus in al-Tanwir.
