Is employment in a bank permissible?

Question: I submit that in the present age getting a job has become impossible; Muslims in particular face great difficulty in getting jobs — in fact, Muslims hardly get jobs at all. I am an educated Muslim: along with secular education I have also acquired religious education. Please inform me about this issue: can a Muslim take a job in a bank or in insurance or not?
