Imposing a monetary fine for an illicit relationship
Question
Question: An illicit relationship arose between Zayd's wife and Bakr. The villagers imposed some rupees on Bakr as a fine, and Bakr paid those rupees. Can those rupees be put to a religious purpose — for example, can they be given for the construction of a mosque or for the salary of the children's teacher, or not?
Answer
A monetary fine is not valid; what has been taken should be returned and not spent on any other purpose.
