The punishment for one who breaks a pledge
Question
What punishment has the Sacred Law prescribed for a person who, after pledging (‘ahd) to act upon some ruling of the Sacred Law, breaks his pledge?
Answer
To make a pledge and then act against it without a reason valid in the Sacred Law is a sin. If the pledge contained the words of an oath, he must also pay the expiation (kaffara) for the oath.
