Buying, selling and using a radio

Question

Zayd works with radios and also keeps a radio at home. ʿUmar objects to him that keeping a radio is impermissible. The question is: in which case may a radio be kept, and in which case may it not be kept?

Answer

On the radio the Noble Qur’an is recited, its tafsir is given, religious speeches are delivered, true news is broadcast and correct commentary on current affairs is made — listening to these things is permissible, and keeping a radio at home for this purpose is also permissible.
